The EN ISO 20471 standard sets requirements for clothing that can increase the visibility of the wearer. Performance requirements are for color, retro-reflection, minimum area, and placement of fluorescent and reflective materials. The standard has three classes, with class 3 offering the highest visibility. Each class has specific requirements for the amount and location of fluorescent, reflective and contrasting materials. Garments can be combined to achieve higher visibility and class. However, it is not always the case that 1+2 equals 3. It all depends on the size of the surface with the material in question (fluorescent and reflective).
